Madison is set to face bitter cold during the Thursday morning commute

The forecast has started to become less confident in a closure for two reasons: First, the expected wind chill is now -17 degrees at 7 AM, up from -21. Second, the model is set to automatically become less confident over time after the previous school day ends, so beginning at 4 PM today. The chance now stands at 27.5%, down from a high of 31.5%.

My personal take on this one: Given that the current expected wind chill at 7 AM is right around -21 degrees, it’s not enough to warrant a closure. However, if the timing changes just a little bit (by an hour or two) and the forecasted wind chills drop by two or three degrees, we will be right around that -25 degree threshold. We will keep an eye on things and update the model as we get new data.
